Vince Gilligan Reveals He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... At the Moment.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the popular sci-fi show wrapping up—and a second season already in development—the writers' room reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get swayed by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to ignore the noise.

“It feels like constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it from others, and that's intentional. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

So if the writers are not listening by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a solid concept for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why not reference the classics?

“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
