Unbowed Nancy does not fear being fired however the Parkhead faithful display anger following defeat.
Wilfried Nancy declared he did not fear dismissal, asserting, “The team is very near to changing our fortunes,” despite edging perilously close to the chopping block with a comprehensive setback against their arch-rivals.
Another Capitulation Leads to Derby Loss
The home side had led Rangers at the break but a second-half capitulation let the Gers to draw level on points with the defending Scottish Premiership champions. The French coach, who was hired from the MLS, has now been in charge for six losses in his first eight fixtures.
“We are together at the club,” said Nancy.
Pressed on his own future, the 48-year-old replied: “I don’t think about it. My focus is on working out methods to get the team to excel on details.
Supporters' Anger Erupts
Hundreds of supporters displayed their anger – towards the board and manager – in their hundreds at full time. Club directors would be most likely to re-appoint the interim manager, who steered the club during a temporary stint previously, should a change be made.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. That is the truth for the moment. Yet when I say that’s how it is, it doesn’t mean that I am a defeatist guy. No. What I mean the turnaround is near, extremely close to turn things around.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
The coach highlights the fact the side can perform strongly for one half at a time. In fact, were it not for poor finishing they could have been greater than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit except the fact that we missed our chances,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I have also to be fair.
“The performance we had at stages was really, really, really high. That is a fact. I wouldn't speak so positively if it was different. That is the reason, in terms of results, I noted we've seen this before. For that reason I feel we are really close to a shift in fortunes. But for the moment: the fine margins.”
“I saw a lot of encouraging signs that we did, like today again. However is consistency. My outlook would be different the same. Therefore I am convinced the team can to turn things around.”
Röhl’s Cautious Stance
Danny Röhl was cautious about a serious challenge even after what seemed like a statement victory. “One match at a time, and we can gradually build momentum,” he said. “The belief in the squad is outstanding.”
