Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against the Dodgers
Springer previously helped the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial championship series after 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the seventh seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Down by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a four games to three triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, our country," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 World Series. "What an incredible feeling."
George Springer has now slugged 23 October home runs, placing him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not anyone else anywhere that I'd prefer in that spot besides him with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the sole team yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" in the wake of his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance in the campaign.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the losing end of this one," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the title on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on Friday.
