The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the festive period,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
