The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but includes several key changes:
- Every squad includes only eight real players, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Actions done by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players seeking alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are upset.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Support
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have pointed out that it will make queue times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
If the development team has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
