The Hit Drama Confirmed for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series created by Jed Mercurio will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, featuring guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.
Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers indicated at the moment there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
