Seamer Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Fitness Concerns.

'Major setback' for England as Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

The English seamer further complicated England's injury problems when he left the ground early on day two of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes series.

Atkinson pulled up with his hamstring after the final ball that he bowled on Saturday.

Team management indicated the 27-year-old had experienced "tightness" and would spend time on the sidelines in order to be assessed "during the day".

The concluding match of the series at the SCG starts on Sunday, 4 January.

The visitors have already lost key quicks Mark Wood to a knee injury and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was omitted for the Adelaide match, only to be brought back for the fourth Test to fill the void.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, taking two wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 while batting among just a trio of English batsmen to get into double digits.

After bowling one over in Australia's second innings, he returned the next day and had nightwatchman edging to the keeper.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a variation to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

Atkinson was brought back for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the Adelaide game.
