Oscar-Nominated Star Diane Ladd, Celebrated For Her Performance in Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Passes Away at the Age of 89.
This Oscar-nominated actor Diane Ladd, a Hollywood veteran has died aged 89.
This star, with roles included Chinatown, died at her home in Ojai, California. This announcement was revealed in a statement by her offspring, Oscar-winning actor her daughter Laura Dern.
Laura Dern, who performed alongside Diane Ladd in a number of films such as Wild at Heart, referred to her as “my wonderful hero as well as my profound gift of a mother”, writing that she was at her bedside as she died.
“She was the most wonderful daughter, mother, grandmother, star, artist and compassionate soul that seemed almost dreamlike,” she wrote. “We were blessed to have her. She is now with the angels.”
Early Career and Rise to Fame
The start of her career featured supporting roles on television series such as Gunsmoke whereas that decade saw her starring next to Jack Nicholson in the film Chinatown.
In the same year, 1974, she performed with actress Ellen Burstyn in Scorsese’s praised dramatic comedy Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, a classic. The performance brought Ladd her first Oscar nomination as best supporting actress.
1980s and Beyond
Throughout the 1980s, she appeared in crime thriller Black Widow plus humorous film National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation while also joining the sitcom Alice, a sitcom derived from Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.
