Jurgen Klopp admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, has suggested that a future comeback is a possibility. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell which brought continental glory and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, now holds roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor for the DFL.
Fan Sentiment and His Frank Comments
The club claimed England's top flight last season, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would be thrilled by the idea that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach any other side on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, that means I might decide later on, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding which situations must arise to draw him back to the touchline, he confessed he was not instantly drawn toward coming back. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing under bad weather for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for interviews multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, however, dining out alongside the squad talking freely, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere around the place. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear for example.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly for his successor, crediting him due to the changes that took the title last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. An outstanding player. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. You don’t have to worry over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of Diogo Jota, a 2020 acquisition while in charge, and its impact for the team. The forward was killed in a road accident with his brother recently.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the squad missing him. I find it difficult to discuss about it. It was an incredible shock for the entire squad also. Not a single person would cite it as an excuse but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Dealing with that emotionally is not easy. Overwhelming.”
