At the budget last week, we made the right choices for Britain, reducing energy expenses with £150 off bills, safeguarding the health service and tackling the scourge of child poverty by eliminating the two-child cap. We also ensured that the funds collected through taxes was done justly, with all paying their share but those with the greatest capacity paying what they owe.

Due to the decisions enacted, the budget established a firmer financial footing, reducing price increases and sovereign debt returns. This is crucial for defending our public services, when £1 in every £10 spent by government goes on debt interest.

Building on Economic Foundations

The plan reinforces the action we have already taken to enhance economic performance: providing £120bn in extra capital investment in such things as roads, rail and energy; enacting the biggest planning reforms in a generation to favor construction, not impediments; supporting the expansion of Heathrow and Gatwick; and concluding commercial agreements with the EU, India and the US.

Collectively, these have allowed us to exceed our growth forecasts.

Renewing Our Nation

As I outlined at the party conference, the government’s purpose is precisely the renewal of our economy, our communities and our state. Via these methods, we will stop degradation and reestablish confidence in our country.

We will challenge those on the political extremes who only offer dissatisfaction and whose approach would lead to continued weakening. Let me be clear, ramping up deficit spending or reimposing spending cuts – that is the strategy of degradation and I refuse to countenance it.

A Thorough Development Strategy

Through remarks coming soon, I will place the budget in context within the broader commercial rejuvenation on which the government will be evaluated upon conclusion of this parliament.

For us to realize the national renewal we seek, we must do more to stimulate expansion, to combat unemployment among young people and to seek enhanced global partnership with our trading partners.

Bureaucracy Reduction Effort

Our development strategy will include a renewed focus on sweeping away unnecessary regulation. Frequently it was those on the left who have supported restrictions, but there is nothing forward-thinking in regulations which merely act to raise the cost of living for the poorest, to impede commercial development unnecessarily, or hinder a reformist leadership achieving its aims.

This is the reason I am asking the business secretary to tackle the type of pointless gold-plating and unnecessary red tape that add to costs and obstruct our industrial strategy.

Benefits System Overhaul

Economic renewal also demands that we must continue to overhaul social security. We assumed control of a dysfunctional apparatus that caused youngsters to lack basic nutrition and which wrote off young people as incapable of employment.

We should not endorse either part of that failing Tory system. This explains we will do more to support adolescents in reaching their abilities.

For when people are neglected in your early career, if you are denied the assistance you need to address psychological challenges, or if you are simply written off because you are having neurological differences or impairments, then it can trap you in a cycle of joblessness and neediness for decades.

This creates economic costs, is detrimental to our output, but much more importantly, it removes potential and overlooks capability. Any reformist leadership worthy of the name cannot ignore that.

This is the reason we have tasked a previous healthcare official to make practical recommendations to help young people with medical issues obtain employment, training or education – guaranteeing they receive assistance to thrive and not sidelined.

International Trade Enhancement

Finally, we have to do more to help our businesses engage in worldwide exchange. There is no credible economic vision for Britain that does not establish us as a accessible, commercial nation.

We must confront the reality that the poorly executed departure agreement substantially damaged our finances. It isn't necessary to have a PhD in economics to know that constructing needless commercial obstacles with your biggest trading partner will hurt growth and raise the cost of living.

Thus an aspect of our economic renewal will be persisting in advancing toward a enhanced business association with the EU. If we can get cheaper food, enhance expansion and generate employment by having a stronger connection with Europe, we should.

A Substantial Strategy for Significant Challenges

An economic package built on just selections for Britain must be backed up with a determination to achieve the economic renewal that the country needs.
