Brian Eno Encourages Support to Send Together for Palestine Song to UK Festive Top Spot.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign seeks to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he said. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It has a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “The message is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded after a major charity concert held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The notable list of artists featured on Lullaby encompasses a selection of well-known figures from the music world. All participated in the September show, which successfully generated a substantial amount for charitable causes.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of talented individuals. The song features a combination of the heritage language with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the project have stated that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These proceeds will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an partnering humanitarian organization.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a representative commented. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to those in need in Gaza.”
The situation in the region was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.
“In that context, a few million is unlikely to make a massive dent. But I think the significant factor is above all raising awareness for this issue and demonstrating there’s another side to the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a digital service from the 19th of December.
